KV Rao's story raises doubts

The arrest of a small-time producer Producer K.Venkateswara Rao, in a drug racket case, has left the industry members shocked. So far, the blot has been limited to Bollywood, where some biggies have been convicted in such cases by the courts of law. It seems that the taint will now haunt Tollywood.

Mr. Rao, who produced Dadar, was arrested by the Cyberabad police from his apartment in Kamalapuri Colony, on the night of Sunday. He is accused with the charge of dealing in heroin, which accounted to the tune of Rs. 20 cr. The figure has left many flabbergasted.

The enormity of the racket, spearheaded with impunity by someone belonging to the Telugu film fraternity, has left many fuming. The fact that KV Rao has reportedly confessed in a statement to the police that there are some more in the industry who are involved in the shady business of exporting heroin, points to more skeletons in the cub board. Stunningly, Mr. Rao said that a prominent producer was also a criminal doing this business, subverting the law for the past 10 years! Rao also said that it was he who was behind his arrest.

The shamed producer, now in police custody, has links with one B. Shyam Raj, who has also been arrested. The ugly nexus between some members of Tollywood and the drug mafia is now raising many questions. If even some of the fears turn out to be true, it is nothing short of a shame.
